Videotape Digital Transfer

Includes a professional transfer of your videotape to digital files at a high bitrate. Your files can then be copied to DVD optical discs and/or MP4 files on a USB flash drive. We also offer mechanical hard drives for larger jobs or as a backup. We handle almost all videotape formats: Betamax, VHS, S-VHS, VHS-C, S-VHS-C, Video8, Hi8, Digital8, MiniDV, DVCAM, Betacam SP, U-matic (3/4″), and MII.

Do you have HDV or other HD formats? We can transfer them to HD digital files.

A note about recording speeds:
Many tape formats have different recording speeds that decrease the quality of the recording and increase the recording time. For example the VHS format has an EP setting that triples the recording time. If used, this makes a 2 hour VHS tape last for 6 hours and a 30 minute VHS-C tape last for 90 minutes. Video8 had an LP mode that makes a 2 hour tape a 4 hour tape. MiniDV LP mode turns a 60 minute tape into a 90 minute tape.

Digital transfers as low as $19.95 per tape

Transfer price is based on exact format, recording speed, runtime, quantity, and condition of videotape. Additional fees apply for physical media. Best to bring what you have to the store so we can evaluate and discuss the options.

What is Time Base Correction (TBC)?

We use Time Base Correction (TBC) for all analog tape transfers. TBC works by sending the video signal into digital memory and then outputting it in perfect time over a regenerated sync pulse. As each frame of video passes through the TBC equipment, the color, hue, and tint are also adjusted to boost colors in “washed out” video or dull down the reds that often “bleed” in older footage.

All work is performed on site and original materials will be returned.
